Zambia is in Central Africa. Roughly the size of Texas or France, Zambia is a landlocked country, bordered by Tanzania to the northeast, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe and Botswana to the south, a narrow strip of Namibia known as the Caprivi Strip to the southwest, Angola to the west, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the northwest.

The official language is English. Commonly-spoken indigenous languages include Chibemba, Chinyanja, Lunda, Chitonga, Kaonde, Silozi and Luvale. The Ethnologue report on Zambia lists 42 languages and many more dialects spoken in Zambia.

Zambia's present-day culture exhibits a blend of historical and cultural features from the past as well as the present. Traditional African practices and understandings continue to influence many aspects of Zambian culture, mainly in how people act towards elders, marriage guidance and ceremonies.
